Making EWN Site Recommendations
The EWN seeks to carefully catalog and map all site proposals so we can move on them at the most strategic place and time. This catalog is
not made available to the general public. It will be available for club planners when calculating deployment.
Because the EWN is still in development, sites are chosen based on the following combined metrics of practicality:
- A mostly unobstructed view of two or more existing or potential EWN nodes (essential!)
- Relatively easy physical access
- e.g. Can we drive to the site?
- Relatively modest security impositions
- Do we have to obtain permission for every visit?
- Would we have to transit through secure areas that impose liability on us?
- Would there be a limit on how often we can visit?
- On site power
- Preferable, but not necessary
- Site owner who values our mission
If you know of a potentially good repeater site for the EWN, it would be tremendously helpful for you to
submit as much of the following information as possible for our database:
- Coordinates or kml of location.
- Address is sufficient if it finds the location correctly in mapping software.
- If site is a general area, a worded description of the boundaries under consideration
- Which EWN nodes it is in view of
- If the view has been physically verified, or if it is speculative.
- Physically verified means someone has visited the site and can actually see the destination node(s) as contrasted with relying on map information or best guesses. e.g a 1800' hill side may still have 50' trees blocking its view.
- Would additional tower structure need to be installed, and how high
- Nature of your relationship to the person with use-authority
- Whether the use-authority has already expressed willingness or interest in hosting a site, or if this is a speculative relationship - that is, someone who needs to be cold-called about it.
- If we should contact the authority directly, who do we contact and how
- Any other relevant notes on the characteristics and terms of the site
