Old Business
NASA Ames ARC Meeting
Overall, this was a good meeting. There were a number of people who liked it and there were a number of people who, by their body-language and questions, didn't like it. This is distinct from those who thought it was possible or not. But it was still good.
SJC EOC Roof
We have been given clearance to put antennas on the EOC roof. We have a mast directly above the weather head that we can put 2 or 3 antennas on. Or if we put a cross-bar across the mast we might be able to get more antennas up there. No date set for put antennas up, yet.
Red Cross
The Red Cross meeting was a hard sell to start; they kept thinking I was trying to get something out of them. Once they figured out I was trying to give them something that costs them nothing, all was fine. We should try for a demo for them at some point.
Joint Venture: Silicon Valley
This was a large meeting of rather high-powered people from all over the valley; even a guy from FEMA. There was a general meeting with a presentation by BENS (Business Executives for National Security, bens.org) and eCLIC. We then broke up into groups based on distaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. I went to the Response meeting. We tried to develop a list of the vulnerable issues that were not being covered. All we came up with was a list of who was not at the meeting and should be: telcos, PG&E, the National Guard, anyone from any city government, etc. A second meeting is scheduled in a week.
New Business
EWN Site Status: Mt. Umunhum, Los Gatos, SJC EOC, Crown Plaza
- Mt. Umunhum: William has tested talking to Santa Cruz with limited results. He will try talking to SJC EOC but if that doesn't work he will talk to Sean Lynch's location when Sean is ready.
- Los Gatos: up and running (still). Though no one is using it right now.
- SJC EOC: members have volunteered to buy equipment to get that set up; 2 radios that can point to Los Gatos and either Mt. Umunhum or Sean Lynch's location.
- Crown Plaza Hotel: We likely can gain access to this by June timeframe.
UPS Batteries at Layer42
We talked about who to transport these batteries: no conclusions because no one has a vehicle that will work now. I will send mail to Steve asking about time and transport.
Charging Circuits
We have found several possible plans. William voiced skeptisizm about just using solar power. We currently have no alternatives. More thought is needed.
Awayteam CD's
Testing Knoppix. The basic Live CD works well but needs some customization.
Red Cross Demo
When we have the beginnings of a hill-top system, a demo will be easy. We will have to wait until something is working (more than just Los Gatos).
The Next Milestones
The plans are to have some equipment bought by next meeting and start installing something soon after next meeting.
