Update on the Wireless Warrior Weekend held June 10, 2006
Chris V. showed
slides from Wireless Warrior Weekend #2 and discussed the overall goal of the training sessions. He also introduced the next two training topics: a work weekend at the SVWUX tower to upgrade equipment and a long distance (15+ mile) wireless shot. Dates are to be determined. Anyone interested should visit the
Wireless Warrior Weekend section of the website.
Design proposal for new network infrastructure
Chris V. showed a
presentation about the proposed design for SVWUX's third generation network. It was compiled with the help of several SVWUX and SVCUG volunteers, and was only intended to spark additional discussion -- which it did.
...need to obtain notes from craig on this...
SVWUX IP addresses
T.R. Fullhart has begun researching the potential of obtaining a BGP Autonomous System (AS) number and an IPv6 /48 block for SVWUX. He will next follow up with Owen DeLong about a rumor of IPv6 /48 blocks being handed out to non-profit organizations and continue filing paperwork for an AS number.
Chris V. will be assuming coordination of AMPRnet for the bay area, as Doug Thom (the current coordinator) is deciding to move on. Chris plans to reorganize the address space to work more easily with newer technologies being used; SVWUX will be granted at least a /20 from this space for general use on the network.
LinuxPicnic project plans
SVWUX has agreed to provide wireless Internet access at the Linux Picnic, and William Estrada has volunteered to lead the project. Details can be found on the
LinuxPicnic Wiki (member login access required). Volunteers are needed for both site surveys, pre-event work parties, and support at the event itself.
If interested in joining this project, contact
William.
