California OES Alerts from EDIS

SVWUX now has a mail list which forwards alerts from the California Office of Emergency Services (OES). It was already possible to view alerts on the web and subscribe to them by e-mail via the Emergency Digital Information System (EDIS). This mail list offers some convenience that we've already configured a subscription for messages affecting Santa Clara County, and excluding test and non-critical messages. The software also filters out statewide bulletins which only mention cities or counties which are not adjacent to Santa Clara County. Our list also allows discussion among the subscribers.

Common Alerting Protocol (CAP)

The California OES and other agencies for whom it forwards alerts use the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), an XML format for distribution of emergency messages.
